The Zhou Dynasty, lasting over 800 years, was a period of both peace and turmoil. It saw the establishment of the Western Zhou’s feudal system, where governance was based on rituals, and later, the decline of social order as warlords vied for power. Countless historical figures and events graced this era, each contributing a distinctive layer to the cultural fabric of Chinese civilization.
This week, after studying the key events of ancient Chinese history and learning the fundamentals of drama performance, WHBC’s Grade 7 students took part in this year’s interdisciplinary assessment—a captivating enactment of historical dramas.Through teamwork and dedication, the students brought these dramatic historical stories to life before our eyes.
From Emperor Wu’s campaign against the tyrant Zhou to Jing Ke’s assassination attempt on the Emperor of Qin, we witnessed the unwavering courage and sacrifice for justice. From the strategic rescue of Zhao by besieging Wei to Tian Ji’s clever horse race tactics, we saw brilliance in military strategy and shrewd thinking. And from the story of the priceless jade returned to Zhao to the humble apology of Lin Xiangru, we caught a glimpse of political maneuvering and the wisdom to keep the larger goal in sight.
The integration of drama and history, the blending of joy and effort—today’s performances not only showcased the students’ deep understanding of both history and drama but also highlighted their growing interdisciplinary skills.
We look forward with great anticipation to seeing WHBC students step confidently onto the broader stage of life, equipped with a global perspective that bridges East and West, and with a collaborative spirit that embraces open-mindedness and mutual success.
